Day 1 (Wednesday 18 September)
A walk from Giggleswick to Malham (about 7 miles) over quite hilly terrain.
The day will begin with a service of Holy Communion at 9.30am at St Alkelda’s Church, Giggleswick and finish with an evening meal together in a hotel in Malham.
Day 2 (Thursday 19 September)
A walk from Malham to Kettlewell (about 10 miles) beginning with a steep climb and then followed by a more gentle downhill and level walk.
The day will begin at 10.30am with a steep climb out of Malhamdale and then over into Wharfedale via Mastiles Lane. There will be an opportunity to pause for prayer after about 7 miles, at St Mary’s Church, Conistone, followed by a level 3 mile walk along the back road to Kettlewell. The day will finish with an evening meal together in Kettlewell.
Day 3 (Friday 20 September)
A walk from Kettlewell to Horsehouse (about 9 miles) again beginning with some steep climbing to the summit of the minor road into Coverdale and then becoming a gentle descent down the dale to the village of Horsehouse. The day will begin in Kettlewell at 10.30am, and will close with prayers in St Botolph’s Parish Church Horsehouse, possibly followed by a bar meal in the Thwaite Arms.
Day 4 (Saturday 21 September)
A walk from Horsehouse to Middleham (about 7 miles) The day will begin at about 10.30am, continuing the slow descent of Coverdale, first along the road and then by a footpath through the fields arriving, after 5 miles, at the village of Coverham, where there will be an opportunity for prayers in Holy Trinity church, a picnic lunch and a chance to look around the ruins of Coverham Abbey. After a gentle 2-mile walk we reach our destination in the town of Middleham where there will be an opportunity for prayers in the parish church of St Mary and St Alkelda before an evening meal in one of the hotels in town. Those walkers staying on for day 5 will return to their lodgings by car.
Day 5 (Sunday 22 September)
Return to Middleham to attend the Morning Service of Holy Communion at 9.30am. At the Parish Church of St Mary and St Alkelda.
